SERUM VS. MOISTURISER - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Serums and moisturisers do in fact help the skin in different ways. The main differences you’ll notice between serums and moisturisers is in the consistency of the products, the skin penetration levels that each reach, and their different purposes.

How does a serum work?

The beauty of a serum is that they provide a high concentration of active ingredients designed to repair the skin at a cellular level; they effectively deliver beneficial nutrients and hydration actives to the deepest layers of the skin where moisturisers won’t penetrate.
If you have aged, damaged, scarred or sun damaged skin, a serum is your best choice to reduce the visible impacts on your skin.
Specific reasons to use facial serums in your skincare regime include:
  • repairing sun damage and reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • skin firming and improved texture
  • puffiness or ‘bagging’ of the eye countour
  • exfoliation for smoother more radiant skin
  • calming redness and sensitivity
  • clearing and preventing blemishes
  • to fade brown spots and pigmentation.
Although usually lightweight in texture, Serums can have a dramatic and swift effect on the radiance of skin. Not meant to replace your moisturiser, serums can be used to boost its hydrating effects and should be applied both morning and night after cleansing and before your moisturiser and sunscreen.

Things to keep in mind when using a Snowberry Serum:

  • As they contain active ingredients, a little goes a long way.

  • Both Youth Renewing Face Serum & New Radiance Face Serum each contain a proprietary blend of collagen-producing peptides, potent ingredients with proven results to plump your skin and help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Learn more about the power of peptides on our ingredients page.

  • Use after cleansing and exfoliating the skin. This ensures the serums will penetrate deeply into the skin and not be stopped by excess dirt and build up.

  • Once applied, wait 5 minutes before applying your moisturiser. This will ensure that Snowberry’s trademarked delivery systems (CuPEP™ & eProlex™) are uninterrupted and that the peptides reach the deepest layers of skin where they can work their magic!

  • Although serums offer amazing results to the skin, they are best to be used as an addition to your skincare routine and not as a replacement for anything.

How does a moisturiser work?

Thicker and creamier than serums, moisturisers contain skin hydrating emollients and form a physical barrier to prevent water loss. Moisturisers have larger molecules than serums, so they don’t penetrate into the epidermis or past the surface layer of the skin. Their main benefit is that they seal the skin, locking in moisture and nutrients and protecting skin from environmental irritants and makeup particles.
Snowberry offers two variations of day creams as well as a night cream, each formulated with different ingredients that support different levels of hydration for various skin types.
Snowberry moisturisers have added anti-ageing ingredients, so they do double duty for your skin. But in order to really address a difficult skin care problem, like sun damage, you’ll want to combine your moisturiser with a quality serum. Including a serum in your skincare routine morning or night (or both) will highlight the moisturiser’s benefits and really ensure great skin results.
